Fluoride and Infertilty

Water comprises about 60% of an adults body weight, and it contributes to every function in the body. Most people are not drinking enough water; you need at least 50% of your body’s weight in ounces daily. If you weigh 160 lbs you need to consume at least 80oz of healthy water daily. Hormones travel in the body via the blood stream and blood volume is directly related to water consumption. The liver and kidneys require adequate water intake to detoxify the body. Healthy hormone levels depend on detoxification of old hormones. When it comes to fertility, water quality is a huge concern.

Fluoride and Infertility

Fluoride and Infertility in Women

Fluoride is added to many cities’ drinking water to reduce cavities. This topic is controversial, but for now lets look at how it affects fertility. When adult female mice drink tap water containing 0, 100, 200, and 300 ppm of sodium fluoride (NaF) for 12 weeks, a significant reduction in pregnancies occur at all levels of concentration. At the highest level of 300-ppm there was a significant decrease in the number of implantations. The control group had 66 implantations as opposed to 20 implantations in the 300-ppm group. Lower progesterone levels are associated with lower number of implantations. The study concludes that long-term exposure to NaF causes adverse effects on the reproductive system and fertility.[1]

Male Infertility

Fluoride also negatively impacts male fertility and pregnancy rates. Mice exposed to 0, 100, 200, 300 ppm of sodium fluoride (NaF) in their drinking water reduced the number of implanted viable fetuses. Females that mated with males who were exposed to NaF for 10 weeks had reduced fertility. The control group had 156 implantations as opposed to 52 implantations in the 200-ppm group and 36 implantations in the 300-ppm group. These results indicate that long-term ingestion of NaF adversely affects fertility.[2]

High levels of nitrates can be found in both tap and well water. Nitrates commonly found in processed meats such as hot dogs and bacon increase the risk of cancer and possibly miscarriage. Many people are unknowingly consuming high levels of nitrates in their water from fertilizer, industrial waste and wastewater treatment facilities.

Fluoride and nitrates are difficult to filter from water. Common over the counter and refrigerator water systems do not remove fluoride and nitrates from tap water. Special filtration systems are required to remove fluoride such as reverse-osmosis. Reverse-osmosis removes everything, including vital minerals from the water. Minerals are required for every function in the body and the body will leach minerals from the bones and organs to balance the lack of minerals in the water. If you are drinking reverse-osmosis water it is critical to re-mineralize the water and add mineral supplements. Ask your practitioner for further recommendations.

Fluoride and infertility affects both men and women at alarming rates
